Tutorial Update: -

YouTube - They have changed some of their links around for the .flv files, so some of the urls you get will not work. Here are examples of what working links look like and non-working links.

YouTube Flv Url's that will work:

http://ash-v125.ash.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=b_aeS6tEHsA
http://chi-v272.chi.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=EUp8PrN1Hys
http://lax-v31.lax.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=UdenU_mpdr4

YouTube Flv Url's that will NOT work:

http://cache.googlevideo.com/get_video?video_id=b6sJlQIzeFg

MySpace - Keepvid.com will not work for getting the flv links from their videos. Since myspace has changed their video page around using the "download helper/download status bar" method suggested on the bottom of this page is your best option.

-----------------------------------------------

This is a pretty simple tutorial that requires hosting of two small files (.swf and .xml). You wont have to host anything else. Here I will show you how you can create a playlist of multiple youtube and or myspace videos instead of cluttering your page with a bunch videos that can crash your friends browser.

Do a search for the video's you want to make a playlist of. I suggest looking on either YouTube or MySpace. Take the page link of that video and go to keepvid.com..

YouTube:

------------------------------------------------

MySpace:

There you will have the option to input the videos page link and choose which site you got the video from (e.g. YouTube, MySpace). You will then be given a download link once you press the Download button. Right click on the download link and choose Copy Link Location, IE users choose Copy Shortcut and paste the flv urls ino your xml playlist code which will be provided for you in a zip file linked later on in this tutorial.

YouTube vids might be a little tricky with some vids not ending in the .flv format. If you get a url from the download link that does not end in .flv such as the case for some YouTube vids just add .flv to the end of the url.

Now download this zip file. In it I have included a xml playlist example code, swf player and read me file. Open the xml file in your text editing program (e.g. Notepad, Editpad Lite) and add the .flv urls where indicated. I recommend using EditPad Lite over Notepad although you can use Notepad if you prefer.

Once you're done and have saved the changes made to the xml file upload it along with the player swf file onto the same host. They're small files so you wont have to worry about running out of bandwidth with your free host unless you have other larger files hosted.

Get the urls to those two files and use the code below.. You're done! Example of the video playlist is shown on the bottom of this page.

Code for your MySpace Page:
<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" height="350" width="525" data="http://urlfilehost.com/files/123456/sideplaylist.swf"> <param name="movie" value="http://urlfilehost.com/files/123456/sideplaylist.swf" /> <param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF" /> <param name="flashvars" value="file=http://urlfilehost.com/files/123456/vidplaylist.xml&showdigits=false&autostart=true&shuffle=false&autoscroll=false&displaywidth=350&repeat=true&backcolor=0x000000&frontcolor=0xffffff&lightcolor=0x00309C&overstretch=false&showdigits=true" /> </object>

Code for other sites like Cherry Tap:
<embed src="http://urlfilehost.com/files/123456/sideplaylist.swf" width="525" height="350" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" flashvars="file=http://urlfilehost.com/files/123456/vidplaylist.xml&showdigits=false&autostart=false&shuffle=false&autoscroll=false&displaywidth=350&repeat=true&backcolor=0x000000&frontcolor=0xffffff&lightcolor=0x00309C&overstretch=false&showdigits=true" />

Settings: [Other Settings] - [Color Chart]

backcolor=0xFFFFFF
This will be the face color of the flash player.

frontcolor=0x000000
This will the text color and player control color.

lightcolor=0x363636
This will be the hover color when your mouse is over a track

showdigits=true
A false setting will hide the track length and time remaining display.

autostart=true
A false setting will disable auto start.

repeat=true
A false setting will prevent the track from repeating once finished.

shuffle=true
A true setting will play each video randomly.

volume=80
The highest volume range is 100.

displaywidth=XXX
This is the width of the side playlist, the lower the number the more skinnier the playlist.

overstretch=false
Set this to true if the image is smaller than the players dimensions.

Unlike other sites I don't force you to place a banner underneath the players I offer here. However if you'd like to help spread the word add this banner underneath the player on your profile so that your friends know where to get one.

Banner Code:
<a href="http://freddyizbadd.com/vidplaylist.php"><img src="http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b49/freddyizbadd/crtbutt.png" border="0"/></a>

If keepvid.com does not have your favorite video site listed or just doesn't work with another video site other than youtube and myspace try this other method:

You could also try getting download helper. It's a Firefox add-on that allows you to download all kinds of videos from any site.

(download helper)
(download status bar)

What you do is go to the site that has the video you want. You'll see a spinning icon on your top toolbar which allows you to download the video, click on it and choose a file form the list to download. As it's downloading, right click on the download status bar, pause it then choose copy source url. Then cancel the download if you don't want to save the vid. And thats another way to get the direct link to the .flv file.
